Tata Motors did not have much of the share in the Indian passenger car segment in the presence of the other automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda. These three automakers dominated the passenger vehicle market with well over half of the road presence. Add to it, most of the Tata cars had begun to lose its significance among the crowd of other competitors.
However, not very long back, Tata introduced a couple of vehicles that seemed to save the sinking ship (metaphor) like the Bolt hatchback and the Zest sub-compact sedan. Sometime later, the introduction of Tiago hatchback seemed to turn the tables in favour of the company and won against most of the opponents. Further, the addition of the Bolt and Zest among the app-based cab fleet increased the company’s road presence.
Tata Motors has presently gained the confidence and has taken it forward by trying its hand in a new segment. The company has readied its new vehicle, the Tata Nexon sub compact crossover, for a launch in India. Despite being a little away from the official launch, the car has already been in the news due to some outstanding features and worth-investing designing.
Read on to find out all about the high tech accessories and the styling elements that are expected in this new Tata Nexon sub compact crossover.
The exterior styling
The Tata Nexon is been designed with a very meticulous approach and the results have been sublime. The silhouette of the car makes it looks a very muscular 5-seater SUV. The physical designing makes the car stand out of most of the other crossovers. The front section is partly rendered from the Bolt hatch with some more advancements. The U-shaped underlining LED DRLs on the headlamps look like the eyes of a predator.
The external body graphics is butch and has a good number of muscular bulges. There is a sharp line running across the sides of the car horizontally. There are added black plastic cladding on all ends including the front and rear bumper. There are also some generous amount chrome all over the front and on the rear section. The fog lamps are covered in chrome borders. At the rear, there are slip tail light clusters that get LED units on them.
The Tata Nexon will be getting some good number of accessories as well, which is not limited to just the dashboard. This 5-seater crossover is given some of the richest multimedia features. There is an 8-speaker system sourced from Harman. The surround sound experience will transform your Nexon into a concert hall.
It also gets a smart key and pushes start/stop button. Moreover, as a part of the driver’s assistance, the car features advanced ultrasonic sensors along with the rear camera. As a result, parking dilemma is all sorted. The safety is looked after by dual front airbags and ABS. Not only this, the ABS is also assisted by EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), that too on all the four wheel.
But the feature lists does not end here. The dashboard is given a supreme touch with the addition of a floating touchscreen infotainment system. Gone are the days when the touchscreen infotainment system was placed on the dashboard. In this new Nexon, the display seems like a pop-up unit that is placed on the top of the dash. It comes in with connectivity features like Android Auto along with the best voice recognition technology and navigation. Added to it, you can even read and reply to the texts or WhatsApp messages with voice based warnings.
The technical bits
Just the way Tata calls it “a mode for each of your moods”. Choose between three drive modes Eco, City and Sport which makes it a much more versatile vehicle on various road conditions. The Sports mode will definitely take you adrenaline rushing.
You get two engines to choose from, a Revotorq (diesel) and Revotron (petrol). The 1.5-litre diesel puts in 110 bhp of highest power along with a peak torque of 260 Nm. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine makes the same 110 bhp of power but a lesser 170 Nm of torque. The transmission is given as a joy for purists with a 6-speed manual unit doing the duties.
The Tata Nexon is highly anticipated, for sure. And why shouldn’t it be? It is one of the most richly featured cars to be hitting the budget crossover segment. Considering how aggressively Tata priced Tiago and Tigor, we can expect the Tata Nexon price to be competitive for sure.
The all new Nexon is expected to be launched in September. So keep the anticipation level rushing.
