The HP Spectre x2 (2017) offers a more affordable alternative to the Microsoft device while also still providing great features, including a higher-resolution display, 7th-gen Intel Core processors and fast SSD storage.
Design and Display
This 2-in-1 flaunts a design that will rival the Surface Pro to a significant extent. The body rocks an ash silver finish while the kickstand sports copper-coloured stainless steel. And talking about the kickstand, we don’t know if either HP or Microsoft tried to copy the other. This is because you can flip the HP Spectre x2 (2017) up to 165 degrees like the new Surface device.
The new keyboard features an all-metal deck and a base made of a tough, rubbery plastic. At 1.5 mm, it offers better key travel than the optional Type Cover for the Surface Pro. The HP Spectre x2 detachable comes with similar 12.3-inch, 10 points multi-touch display.
Based on IPS technology, the Gorilla Glass 4-protected touchscreen boasts an improved resolution of 3,000 x 2,000 pixels. This means the new HP Spectre x2 promises even better images than the already awesome Surface Pro.
Performance And Operating System
HP now powers its popular 2-in-1 with the latest generation Intel (Kaby Lake) processors. Buyers can choose between Core i5 and Core i7 models.
In terms of graphics solutions and RAM, the HP Spectre x2 (2017) is practically the same as the Surface Pro. You get up to 16 GB of DDR3 RAM and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 (on the Core i7 model). However, battery life is just about eight hours. HP Spectre x2 (2017) does offer fast charge technology that gives you 50 percent charge in half an hour, though.
Just like the Microsoft device, the HP Spectre x2 (2017) offers up to 1TB solid state drives for storage. It also boots Windows 10 OS with Windows Hello face authentication support. Interestingly, the 2-in-1 gives you not one, but two USB Type-C ports.
HP Spectre x2 (2017) also offers buyers a dongle for USB Type-C to USB Type-A port conversion. You get front-facing speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen for decent audio.
