There has been so many rumurs regarding Snapdragon 821 chipset. Some rumours even started that it will be ffeatured inside the Galaxy Note 7. Qualcomm has put those rumours to rest by making the Snapdragon 821 system-on-a-chip official.
The Snapdragon 821 is a slightly faster and more efficient version of the 820 that keeps all the characteristics that have made Snapdragon 820 such a successful chip. It’s essentially the same chipset with higher CPU and GPU clock speeds.
According to Qualcomm, we should expect a 10% increase in performance compared to Snapdragon 820. This performance increase also suggests that the Snapdragon 821 is a higher binned version of the 820. And Qualcomm has also not clarified if there is any actual difference between the two chipset other than performance increase.
Expect to see this chipset in upcoming phones that will be released later this year. Including this year’s nexus and Galaxy Note 7 and any other major smartphone released by any other major OEM
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 821 will be featured in devices released in the second part of the year. No names were dropped, but we can speculate that the Galaxy Note 7, the LG V10 successor, and the higher-end HTC Nexus will be powered by Snapdragon 821. In addition to smartphones, Qualcomm said that the 821 will be used in “mobile VR head mounted displays and other new devices.”
