Nvidia will hold a closed editors event for a group of vetted editors on the 6th of May. Its expected that Nvidia will be unveiling their next gen high end flagship cards to these editors. The cards expected to be unveiled are the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 which are expected to replace GTX 980 and 970 respectively. These new cards will be based on Nvidia’s Pascal architecture and will be manufactured on the 16nm FinFet process (which has been promised to bring a 2x performance/watts increase)
GTX 1080 will be the first card to utilize the brand new 8GB GDDR5X which brings with it about 2x the performance of the GDDR5 DRAM standard from Micron. However, GTX 1070 will still use 8GB of GDDR5 DRAM but it will come with 2048 CUDA cores which is the same with GTX 980. Geforce GTX 1060 and GTX 1060 Ti which are positioned on the mid-range graphics card market are also expected to revealed at the Editor’s event on May 6th.
